What is the DTV visa?

The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) is a Thai visa for eligible visitors travelling for purposes such as remote work, certain activities and medical treatment. It is a multiple-entry visa valid for five years, allowing stays of up to 180 days per entry. An extension of up to another 180 days may be requested, subject to Thai Immigration’s requirements and approval.

Five-year visa validity does not mean permission to stay continuously in Thailand for five years. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Thai embassy or consulate handling their application. Read official DTV information.

If you are considering dental treatment as the purpose of your visit, confirm whether your proposed treatment and clinic documents are acceptable before making travel commitments.

Can dental treatment support a DTV application?

Official DTV guidance includes medical treatment and requests supporting evidence such as an appointment letter from a hospital or medical centre. This does not mean that every dental appointment or treatment plan automatically qualifies. Royal Thai Embassy guidance.

Smile Dental Center in Pattaya offers dental implants, orthodontic treatment and Invisalign. These treatments may involve a series of appointments, depending on your individual needs.

Before booking treatment for a visa application, ask your responsible Thai embassy or consulate whether it accepts your proposed dental treatment and documentation from a dental clinic. Booking treatment does not guarantee visa approval.

Your treatment schedule should reflect the care you need, rather than a preferred visa duration.

Email us before travelling for dental treatment

Before booking your journey, email [email protected] to discuss your dental needs and proposed travel dates.

If you have existing dental reports, X-rays or a treatment plan from your current dentist, let us know. We can explain how to share these records for preliminary review and prepare for your consultation.

Please include:

  • The treatment you are considering, such as implants, orthodontics or Invisalign.
  • Your main dental concerns and previous treatment.
  • Your intended arrival date and expected length of stay.
  • Whether you need treatment information for a DTV application.

An email consultation does not replace an examination. Treatment options, final costs and appointment dates may need to be confirmed after an in-person assessment.

Contact us first for instructions on sharing sensitive medical records. Please do not send passport copies or financial documents with your initial dental enquiry.

Dental implants

Implant treatment may involve separate appointments for assessment, surgery, healing reviews and the final restoration. The sequence depends on your treatment plan, including whether additional procedures are needed.

Before travelling, email us about your missing teeth, previous treatment and any available X-rays. We can discuss what information is needed to assess your case and plan your first appointment.

A treatment plan involving several appointments does not necessarily require you to remain in Thailand continuously between visits. Discuss travel between treatment stages with your dentist.

Orthodontic treatment

Orthodontic treatment involves a planned course of care with review appointments. Before starting, discuss how long you expect to stay in Thailand and whether you can attend the appointments your dentist recommends.

If you already have braces or have previously received orthodontic treatment, mention this in your email. Existing treatment records may help with the initial discussion, although an examination will still be needed.

Your clinical schedule should guide your travel arrangements. It cannot be set solely around a preferred visa duration.

Invisalign

Invisalign treatment uses a planned series of clear aligners with professional supervision. Your dentist will assess suitability and explain the review schedule for your case.

Tell us before starting if you expect to travel during treatment or divide your time between Thailand and another country. Do not assume that receiving several sets of aligners removes the need for follow-up appointments.

Email us to discuss your goals, previous orthodontic treatment and proposed time in Pattaya.

What documents might a DTV applicant need?

Published embassy guidance commonly requests:

  • A passport or travel document.
  • A recent photograph.
  • Evidence of residence or location relevant to the embassy handling the application.
  • Financial evidence of at least 500,000 THB, or the specified equivalent.
  • An appointment letter or other evidence supporting the medical-treatment purpose.

This is a general overview, not a complete application checklist. Requirements vary by application location and can change. Embassies may specify how many months of bank statements are needed or request additional documents.

The financial-evidence requirement is separate from the cost of dental treatment. It is not a payment to the clinic.

Planning your treatment and visa application

1. Check the requirements for your application

Contact the Thai embassy or consulate responsible for your application. Ask whether your proposed dental treatment is acceptable and what documents it requires from the clinic.

2. Email us about your dental needs

Write to [email protected] with your concerns, proposed travel dates and the treatment you are considering. Let us know whether you have reports or X-rays available.

If you have received a document checklist from the embassy, share the relevant requirements so we can discuss what dental information is needed.

3. Arrange an assessment

Your dentist will assess your treatment options and explain whether further examination, imaging or records are needed. An initial email discussion may help you prepare, but it cannot establish a final treatment plan in every case.

4. Confirm appointments, costs and documentation arrangements

Before committing, review the anticipated treatment stages, payment terms and any documentation arrangements with the clinic. Ask about any applicable document fees and cancellation or refund conditions.

Allow for the possibility that your treatment schedule may change following assessment or during care.

5. Submit your visa application

Follow the instructions of the responsible embassy or consulate and the applicable process through the official Thai e-Visa website.

Keep your dental appointment planning separate from assumptions about visa approval or processing times.

Frequently asked questions

Does booking implants or Invisalign guarantee a DTV?

No. The embassy or consulate assesses your application. A clinic booking, appointment letter or treatment plan does not guarantee approval.

Must dental treatment last six months?

Do not assume there is a universal six-month treatment requirement. Ask the embassy handling your application what it requires for your proposed treatment. Your clinical schedule must reflect the care you actually need.

Must I stay in Thailand throughout my treatment?

Not necessarily. Ask your dentist which appointments require your presence and whether travel between stages is appropriate. Your permission to stay in Thailand and your dental appointment schedule are separate matters.

Can I send dental reports and X-rays before coming?

Yes. Email [email protected] first and tell us which records you have. We can explain how to share them for preliminary review.

Existing records may help us prepare, but an in-person examination or updated imaging may still be needed.

Can I receive a treatment plan by email?

We can discuss your concerns and the information needed before your visit. Whether a treatment plan can be prepared from existing records depends on your case. Final recommendations, costs and scheduling may require an examination.

Are visa fees included in dental prices?

Treat visa application costs and dental treatment costs separately. Ask for a written explanation of the clinic’s charges and any document-related fees before payment.

What if my visa is refused or delayed?

Tell the clinic promptly so appointment arrangements can be discussed. Before making a payment, ask which cancellation, rescheduling and refund terms apply. Do not assume a visa refusal automatically makes a payment refundable.
